Welcome to Platform Edition!
As a product manager, I have a great deal of empathy for anyone who decides to bring a product to market. In an ideal world, going from idea to execution would require just a snap of the fingers, or perhaps a wiggle of the nose; the reality is a bit more involved.
Have you ever signed up for a crowdfunding campaign?
If so, how often has the project been delivered?
And if it’s been delivered, was it on time?
When it comes to selecting crowdfunded projects for their final delivery, I feel pretty good about my batting average, but timely delivery is an entirely different game.
On that note, I’d like to say that we are proud to announce the timely and final general availability of Duo Platform Edition!
Platform Edition is the culmination of discussions with our customers, iterative design sessions, many man-years worth of work, and finally, a number of highly-informative beta experiences. We appreciate our customers’ willingness to share their concerns and desires when it comes to shaping the future of securing access, and we’re thankful for those who have been able to spend time reviewing our solutions.
We pride ourselves on being a customer-centric company, and we practice that by listening to what customers have to say, even if it touches on security problems they’re experiencing outside of our existing product offering. On the journey to Platform Edition, customers continually echoed a number of similar problems they’ve been facing, including: dealing with the reality of their users bringing their own devices into the deployment; figuring out their strategy around using cloud applications, and having a way to make sense of it all.
Once similar themes became apparent, we turned to our development team and asked them to start designing solutions for this range of new issues, with an eye towards the same ease-of-use you’ve experienced with Duo already. One of the things expressed repeatedly was a desire to gain insight into mobile devices despite users’ discomfort with and resistance to having their personal devices managed by their company. Then, how can that information be put to use when it comes time to managing access to services using those devices? Our customers were integral to the process, walking us through the experiences they’ve had so far when attempting to solve these problems.
Design doesn’t happen in a vacuum, however; it’s important to see how things work in the field, and we were able to enlist the help of over 20 customers in a beta program designed to help shape the functionality of these features. Based on feedback from customers, we optimized several workflows in Policy & Control, from how policy creation works to how the layout is organized. We also have a great list of features to continue to further flesh out Platform Edition.
While this is GA, this is also a first milestone in many to come. Making security easy and effective means that there’s a lot to be done, and we’d like you to help shape the future by using Duo Platform Edition, giving us feedback, and being part of the process. While we’re not crowdfunded, our solutions are crowdsourced in tandem with our customers.
Thank you to our customers, for bringing us here; thank you to our development team for realizing a vision; and finally, thank you for choosing Duo Security!
