Winners Announced for Duo's Women in Security Awards 2015

Duo Security Honors Women in Information Security; Presents Academic and Industry Winners

Duo Security, a cloud-based access security provider protecting the world’s largest and fastest-growing companies, today announced the winners for its first annual Women in Security Awards 2015: Parisa Tabriz, industry winner, and Rachel Sitarz, academic winner.

Parisa Tabriz is the (self-appointed) Security Princess for Google, where she currently manages Chrome’s security engineering team on their mission to make Chrome the most secure way to browse the web and improve Internet security. She has devoted a large part of her career, both inside and outside of Google, to raising developer and user awareness to security topics via open source training, novice-friendly activities, and public speaking. She also does part-time security consulting work for government organizations with the U.S. Digital Service.

“There are few technologists who have been able to drive massive, Internet-scale improvements to security that protect all of us,” said Dug Song, Duo Security CEO and co-founder. “Parisa has led Google's Chrome Security team to innovate not only in areas of security architecture, engineering, and management, but also security usability and economics, creating incentives for users and websites to operate more securely.”

Rachel Sitarz is working towards her PhD in cyber forensics at Purdue. She has worked full time, while being in school. Remarkably, Sitarz worked for three years for the Indiana State Police as a criminal intelligence analyst on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, where she developed analytical products and tactical analysis for police investigations. She now works full time for Purdue, analyzing the threats that are coming into their networks.

“Academic security research can often veer toward theory, and not real-world results,” said Jon Oberheide, CTO and co-founder of Duo Security. “Rachel is the rare example of a security academic informed by practice, having worked on the front lines of security investigations with law enforcement, who produces results that have real-world implications.”

Tabriz and Sitarz were awarded a full briefing pass to BlackHat USA 2015, August 1-6, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the premiere event for the information security industry, where they have the opportunity to network with and learn from other leaders and pioneers in the industry. Winners will also be awarded the opportunity to speak at future events with Duo Security that will celebrate women in information security, as well as a $2,500 stipend.

“We’re honored to present Parisa and Rachel with our Women in Security Awards,” said Lisa Paul, Duo’s Vice President of Customer Success. “These women are true leaders in the industry and are incredible role models for young women who want to break into information security. These awards are just the beginning of Duo’s endeavors to honor the contributions that women are making in infosec.”

Winners were chosen by a panel of judges selected by Duo Security, including:
